Music fosters a well rounded education

Shayna is a dreamy girl studying in 4th Grade . Her parent’s main concern was that she was not able to keep up her attention for a long time and hence her grades suffered too. They were trying various other ways like enrolling her in games like badminton and other after school classes like vedic mathematics and several others. Shayna never really showed any interest in any of these activities and hence no improvement. How do you think she started getting good grades in academics? YES!

It was music which helped her improve her grades and she started performing very well within a span of 6 months. It was amazing and a learning experience for me to see Shayna’s progress. Initially when she had enrolled for Carnatic vocal classes with me, she had no idea that she would like it and take to it the way she did. Her attention span was very less at the beginning which graqdually improved over a period of time.

I have had experiences where kids who are rebillious, very hard to discipline also take on to music very nicely and have shown very good improvement in their academics as music fosters discipline and more so Carnatic Classical vocal training involves a very structured way of learning. Giving them assignments where story telling had to be done through music was a very interesting way to kindle creativity in them. Music education develops language skills, deductive reasoning, hand-eye coordination, and many other qualities beneficial later in life. In addition, when kids memorize the music they’re playing, that sets the stage for improved schoolwork and educational engagement.

Making music with their peers can improve social and emotional skills as children learn to work together as a team and develop a sense of empathy. Researchers have found that when children play music together from simple rhythms to larger group performances – they are better able to tune into other people’s emotions. Music has been reported to evoke a full range of human emotion including:
